They sort of help with their intended function (splash guard, if you use your mug in the car) but I think they are best for keep back the tea bags while I’m drinking. I make cold brew tea buy putting tea bags in water in my various Fellow mugs and slip one of these on and then when I am consuming the cold brew tea, I don’t get a mouthful of tea bag. I do wish Fellow would include one in every mug order though, including the Slide Mug. I know theoretically, if you have the Slide lid on, you don’t need it, but if I am at home, I take the lid off and sip from the side.
