All my life I've used plastic ice cube trays. Lately, however, we noticed that there were some tiny white particles in the water once the ice melted. The plastic of the trays seemed to have eroded. I researched metal trays... All my life I've used plastic ice cube trays. Lately, however, we noticed that there were some tiny white particles in the water once the ice melted. The plastic of the trays seemed to have eroded. I researched metal trays and took a chance on those. No regrets! They just need to be used a bit differently than plastic trays: First, I tied the tray to the freezer shelf so it wouldn't move all around when inserting the trays in it. I bought a metal bowl just for the freezer. Once every few days I take out the ice trays and let them sit on the counter before popping the cubes out. Do not try to remove the cubes right out of the freezer; it will break the arm of the tray. After 8 to 10 minutes (depending how full they are filled)hen I transfer all the cubes in the bowl, for easy use. Bonus: although it takes a little more time to get the cubes out, it is easier to fill the tray with water: you can fill the empty tray, then add the divider. Highly recommend.
