Best cutting board I have ever used and it's made in the USA!: I had been wanting a new cutting board for quite some time and had only used bamboo boards which began to split or come apart after a couple of years use. So I did some research and found out that the best boards to use are those that come from nut trees. Sustainability was also a huge factor in what I would purchase and I more than anything, I wanted it to be USA made. I found Virginia Boys Kitchens had high ratings so I purchased a 15 x 20 walnut cutting board from them. I love, love, love it! So beautiful and functional. Keep in mind that for any cutting board to last it must be clean with mild soap and oiled after each use. I use VBK's soap bar, oil, and wax on my board but there are other brands available. Though the oils and wax must be food grade. I just ordered another one with supplies to send to my daughter as a house warming gift!! Yes, in my humble opinion, Virginia Boys Kitchens walnut cutting boards are that good!

The blood wells are huge and the surface is the perfect size for roasts (not brisket) or chickens. The wood is beautifully grained and catches the eye in the corner of my kitchen. Unfortunately mine came with a decent chip on the inner edge of the blood well. Hoping it doesn't lead to splitting down the road.

We also ordered the oil and wax to take care of it and they work beautifully to seal and enhance the finish. The... We also ordered the oil and wax to take care of it and they work beautifully to seal and enhance the finish. The original board we ordered was wrapped in one layer of cardboard and one corner got smushed in transit. They graciously replaced it with a second board. The second board was sent from Amazon. It was wrapped in a larger box and arrived in perfect condition. It is even nicer than the first board. The surface is smoother and the Virginia Boys logo is larger. It is a truly a gorgeous cutting board.

It's important to know that this board comes unseasoned and slightly rougher than I would want to use as a cutting board. We purchased another board that came preseasoned and smooth, but it was too small so we choose this board. I had always planned to oil the board, but I did not expect to have to oil it immediately (It probably says that it comes unseasoned in the details, but I didn't read them clearly enough). I was not surprised that it came slightly rough, as many of the reviews mentioned this. I ended up using 1000 grit sandpaper (800 would probably work great too) between each of the first two oiling sessions, and did not sand after the final oiling. Regardless of the extra work it took, the board is so beautiful once finished, it still warrants 5 stars. If you don't want to do any work, it's probably not the board for you, but if you're willing to put in about an hours worth of work, then the board is stunning. I have not used the board yet, so I cannot comment on its durability. However, if there is a problem I will update this review. If there is no update it's safe to assume the board is working perfectly. Either that or my fiancée made me disappear under suspicious circumstances. In that case, send the police. Ask them to update this review if there are any problems with the cutting board.
